Following are some links to some specifically educational pages created by our family that we would like to share. As a homeschooling family with former teachers as parents (Kordel: high school math; Sheryl: elementary education), we have been very big on encouraging educational leisure time.
- Riddle Collection (Logic)
- As part of preparing for teacihng a logic class for our homeschool cooperative, I compiled this list of some great riddles. I have listed many classic riddles from accross the globe as well as taking a stab at writing some of my own.
- Interactive Moon Map (Astronomy)
- For part of our schooling, we have taught some astronomy basics. One of our favorite objects to observe in the night sky with a telescope is the moon. This map lets you drill yourself on the names of the "seas" and other major regions of the moon.
- Interactive United States Map: Drill States (Geography)
- As a homeschool project, the boys helped us build an interactive map, similar in function to the moon map (above), to let them drill the names of the states.
- Interactive United States Map: Drill Capitals (Geography)
- Since maps get pretty crowded if you try to put too much on them, we decided to create a second map to drill the names of the state capitals.
- As a family project, we have begun taking pictures of all the birds we see and have created web pages to display the photos, some key information, and even links to other pages with other details including mp3's of what each bird sounds like. This will be an ongoing work in progress as we try to improve the existing pictures and add new birds. For now it is off to a good start.
