Messages
Below are some sermons that I preached in the past. I originally built this page as a place to post a sample sermon to reference while I was seeking a ministry. After receiving multiple requests to make additional sermons available, I decided to post some more recent messages.
Also, I found old tapes of some of the first sermons I ever preached dating as far back as 1995. I have found it interesting to analyze my messages from so long ago, and have included some of these older ones as well.
NOTE: I needed to sacrifice some quality to make the audio files small enough to download (with exports as low as a constant 32kbps). This lower quality might be evident in some places, but all files should still be adequate to hear and appreciate the message and provide for reasonable download times.

- The Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, The Universe, and Everything: 42
- Type: Children's Sermon
- Date: December 5, 2010
- Location: Agency Christian Church in Agency, MO
- File type & size: MP3, 2.91 MB
- Length: 6:22
- Primary Bible Passage: Matthew 1:17
- PowerPoint: 11 slides (3.42 MB) (PowerPoint 97-2003 file)
- Comments: Usually when I prepare the sermon audio files I trim off the children's sermon since it doesn't record as well. I decided to put at least one children's sermon on this web site, though, and thought this one was a fun one to share. It is based on an insight that my son Caleb pointed out, and offers Biblical support for the claim that the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything is 42.
- Building A Lasting Faith
- Type: Sunday morning adult sermon
- Date: November 29, 2009
- Location: Grace Christian Fellowship in Kansas City, KS
- File type & size: MP3, 17.4 MB
- Length: 50:47
- Primary Bible Passage: Hebrews 11:1-9, 32-40
- PowerPoint: 78 slides (6.79 MB) (PowerPoint 97-2003 file)
- Comments: First of all, I want to mention that the quality of this file was a challenge to work with. The original recording had a constant buzzing noise which I was able to mostly filter out, but there are still some hints of it left in some spots. There were also a couple places where the message was entirely lost, and I edited in some corrections. As a whole, it was one of my lower-quality recordings, but still acceptable and a good message to include here.
It is interesting to note that this message was a re-working of "Believing God's Word" (below). It uses some of the same illustrations but ultimately takes a totally different approach to discussing faith in God's Word. It was set at the beginning of the Christmas season and takes a detailed look at the star of Bethlehem, which was a fascinating study.

- Opening Illustration: Skit
- Comments: This is the sermon that I preached at my ordination service the day I was commissioned by my home church, North Liberty Church of Christ, to officially enter the ministry.
The message makes reference to a skit that did not make it into the recording. HERE is a link to a copy of that skit. The youth who performed it did a fantastic job. The last thing you heard was a bone-chilling scream followed by a door slamming. Afterwards you could hear a pin drop. It was a very sobering prelude to the message.
