Miscellaneous (September 2005 - May 2006)
I rescued this kingfisher bird from the middle of our road. It had somehow injured its wing so it could not fly. It had spirit. It had spunk. It would bite whoever got in its way!
As we started to nurse it back to health, it looked like it was going to do very well. It was drinking and eating small fish on its own. When we took it to the vet to see about setting its wing, though, the vet killed him. He said the bird's wing could not be fixed, and the law kept him from returning the bird to us. I'll definitely think twice before taking an injured animal to a vet again.
Some foxes had a litter of pups down the road. We frequently watched them romp and play and grow up. Here one posed for a picture next to our car.
The first two goats born on our farm did not live. Here is Sheryl trying to nurse a baby goat that was dying. We later found out that there was nothing we could have done.
